WPEO is a dynamic community of certified women-owned businesses, building on their success through mutually beneficial partnerships with Fortune 1000 corporations and other WBEs.
The Women Presidents’ Educational Organization (WPEO) comprises two of the 14 regional partner organizations of the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC)—the nation’s leading advocate for women-owned businesses. WPEO was founded in 1998 by Dr. Marsha Firestone, a pioneer in opening doors for women-owned businesses.
Furthering the success of women-owned businesses is our primary mission. We provide WBENC certification—the gold standard in diversity certification—at the regional level, and serve as an advocate for certified women-owned businesses in our New York and Washington, D.C. regions, offering them educational programs, networking opportunities and recognition.
WPEO is incorporated in the state of New York and recognized as a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization.
Women-owned businesses in America account for:
Our place in the national landscape
WPEO has approximately 1,700 certified WBEs in New York, Northern and Central New Jersey, Southern Connecticut, Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia, accounting for over 14% of the more than 11,000 WBENC-certified WBEs nationwide. Last year alone, we received 1,700 applications.
The vast majority of Fortune 1000 corporations require women-owned businesses to be WBENC certified in order to access their supplier diversity programs. These world-class programs serve as a bridge to countless business opportunities for certified WBEs.
Getting certified is the first step, and we’re here to help you reach your goals and get the most out of this prestigious designation.
“It is critical to address the disparity between the overall impact that WBEs have on the economy versus corporate spend. WPEO helps WBEs gain a competitive edge when seeking business opportunities with supplier diversity programs of Fortune 1000 companies. Top corporations are looking to work with certified WBEs. Our objective is to streamline that effort by helping WPEO Corporate Members tap into a pool of high-caliber vendors and by connecting WBEs in a variety of industries with each other. This can open up a wealth of business-building opportunities in supplier diversity programs nationwide.”
