Public Sector Certification
Woman-Owned Small Business Certification
On behalf of WBENC, WPEO provides Woman-Owned Small Business (WOSB) certification as part of the Small Business Administration (SBA)’s WOSB Federal Contracting Program. Being a certified WOSB allows WBEs to gain greater access to government contracting opportunities at the federal level – directly with federal agencies, or indirectly with federally funded corporations.
WOSB Certification Criteria
- Must be applying for WBENC certification or recertification.
- Qualification as a “small” business, based on industry classification with the federal government (certain federal business codes are not eligible).
- Please note that WOSB certification applications will be reviewed only if WBENC certification or recertification is granted.
How do I know if I’m eligible?
As with WBENC certification, the application for WOSB certification is online at WBENCLink. If interested in WOSB certification, the applicant must select “Yes” when answering the first question of the online application in Section 1: General Information, “Would you like to apply for WOSB certification?
” Please note WPEO/WBENC does not process EDWOSB applications, and a WBE must self-certify through the SBA.

“It is critical to address the disparity between the overall impact that WBEs have on the economy versus corporate spend. WPEO helps WBEs gain a competitive edge when seeking business opportunities with supplier diversity programs of Fortune 1000 companies. Top corporations are looking to work with certified WBEs. Our objective is to streamline that effort by helping WPEO Corporate Members tap into a pool of high-caliber vendors and by connecting WBEs in a variety of industries with each other. This can open up a wealth of business-building opportunities in supplier diversity programs nationwide.”

“This is an historic moment as WBENC advances its mission of leveling the playing field for Women's Business Enterprises not only in the private sector, but now in the public sector. We are pleased that the United States SBA, like our current corporate partners, recognizes the value and credibility of third-party certification. Through the approval of third-party certification, the United States SBA has taken an important step in enabling women's businesses to effectively compete and win contracts with the government. We believe that this will lead to women's business growth and a positive impact on our economy.”
