  • Employment Law Alert from Nukk-Freeman & Cerra, PC. The Federal Government has recently issued a whole host of COVID-19 guidance relating to participant elections for employee benefit plans. In response to Governor Larry Hogan’s executive order to help limit the spread of the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) outbreak, MDOT’s Office of Small and Minority Business Policy (OSMBP) will host its Certification Application Assistance Workshop via WEBINAR. Find out if certification as a Minority Business Enterprise (MBE), Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE), Airport Concessions Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (ACDBE), and/or Small Business Enterprise (SBE) is right for your business. Opportunities exist for small, minority, and women owned businesses to meet minority participation goals on government and private sector contracts.   • Governor Cuomo announced the New York Forward Loan Fund, a new economic recovery loan program aimed at supporting New York State small businesses, nonprofits and small landlords as they reopen after the COVID-19 outbreak and NYS on PAUSE. Pre-application for the New York Forward Loan Fund will be open on May 26, 2020 at Noon Eastern Daylight Time. Priority will be given to industries that have been reopened. This is not a first-come, first-served loan program. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis as regions and industries reopen. Businesses who have already received SBA funding through the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) or the Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) are not eligible.     
  • With mostly blue skies and warm weather coming this weekend, the Mayor’s Office of Nightlife created a printable poster for you to hang in your business to remind patrons to take out, not hang out. Download the poster here. Bars and restaurants are allowed to be open for take-out/delivery only.

Washington, DC

  • Following on Mayor Bowser’s DC Small Business Recovery Microgrants Program, the Department of Housing and Community Development is launching an additional grant opportunity specifically for small businesses in Ward 7 and 8. The Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) will make available approximately $800,000 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding allocated from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to eligible for-profit small businesses. Applications will be accepted through at 10 am on Friday, May 29, 2020.

  • WIPP has published their latest Opportunity Bulletin. While many segments of the economy are experiencing unprecedented loss, one sector of the economy, the federal government, is rapidly increasing its spending to combat the COVID-19 virus. Reported spending obligations for COVID-19 as of May 18 are about $11.6 billion and are expected to increase in the coming weeks.
